Take a walk through forests, meadows, or near streams and brooks, and just out of sight are Faeries, Elves, Sprites and Pixies and all sorts of enchanting creatures. Faeries are extremely clever and usually very friendly, unless they are annoyed. If you ask them politely, you may get to see one. Remember, only true believers see faeries!
There are many definitions of what a fairy is. For me they have always been tiny, beautiful, magical creatures, (probably thanks to Walt Disney). Tinkerbell has always been my favorite.
Several months ago I came across a story on the web about how fairies didn’t have babies like people do.
The story said that fairies lay their eggs and leave ladybugs as nannies, to care for the eggs and teach the newly hatched fairies how to use their wings. I love that story almost as much as I love Tinkerbell! So, for a craft show this past summer I set about making my version of a “fairy egg adoption kit.”.
This includes, one fairy egg (pink for girls and blue for boys) in a leaf bassinet, with one ladybug nanny, and an adoption “certificate”.
Leaves, eggs and nannies are handcrafted from polymer clay and painted with acrylics.
